Media Center Hosts First News Conference

Media Center launched operation on September 24. The project has been supported by the Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF). OSGF financed NGOs will inform media outlets through the Media Center on outcomes of surveys conducted in the run-up to the elections, monitoring of election day events, vote-counting process and developments after the elections.

The first news conference in the Media Center was held by This Affects You Too campaigners and Coalition for Media Advocacy. NGOs and media outlets made a statement regarding a ban imposed by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on making video records on the election day. They find CEC additional rules on taking pictures and making video records at polling stations alarming. The CEC draft resolution runs counter to the Election Code and absolutely groundlessly limits an opportunity to cover election events. Representatives of the organizations once again reiterated the needs to extend the term of must-carry obligations to the election day and the following period.
