World Aids Day Marked Nationwide

05.12.2013

World AIDs Day was commemorated in Georgia with an information campaign launched in different cities of the country.  The campaign’s key message was “Getting to zero: zero new infections, zero discrimination, zero AIDs-related deaths.”

The HIV/AIDs working group, made up of dozens of local and international organizations working on AIDs issues, met at the Writers’ House in Tbilisi on 1 December to hold a news conference and discussions.

The working group focused on: access to antiviral treatment, drug consumption and factors contributing to the transmission of the epidemic disease; homosexuals and sex workers; challenges and ways to meet these challenges; and HIV/AIDs and migration.

The event concluded with a showing of “Renewed Match,” a film about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Georgia.

The World Aids Day event was supported by the European Union and the Open Society Georgia Foundation.
