Presentation of the Documentary Film ”My Uncle – Petre Otskheli”

On March 1st, screening of the film “My Uncle – Petre Otskheli” was held in Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgian State University. The film is dedicated to the set designer of the theatre – Petre Otskheli, who has contributed much to the development of the Georgian scenography.

Successful creative career of Petre Otskheli is related to cooperation with Kote Marjanishvili. He was still a student when Kote Marjanishvili invited him to work in the theater. Petre Otskheli left the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and in his third year of study went to work in the theater. During those 9 seasons that he has been working in the theatre, he produced works, which play a fundamental role in the development of Georgian theater.

In the film, Marina Otskheli tells about the childhood of her uncle. The film is based on documentary facts, where the artist’s life and works are fully reflected. The family photo archive and the letters written by the young artist to his sisters are shown in the film.

Petre Otskheli was the victim of Stalin’s purges of 1937. He was sentenced to be shot “on charges of forming a terrorist organization in Moscow.”

The film “My Uncle – Petre Otskheli” was shot in 2002 with a financial support of Open Society Georgia Foundation. Davit Chubinashvili is a director of the film. The film is kept in the archives of the public broadcaster.
