New challenges faced by broadcasters in Georgia: How will Georgian Media meet 2016 elections?

03.09.2015

Media Advocacy Coalition negatively assesses the shutdown of Imedi TV public-political talk shows and shares the pathos of the statements made by non-governmental organizations on this issue. The coalition believes that events developed around Rustavi 2 and Maestro TV not only reduces media pluralism in Georgia, but also poses a threat to media freedom during pre-election period in 2016. The coalition also believes that the public lacks comprehensive information on the changes in the media environment.

On September 4, 2015 the coalition brought together the representatives of media, non-governmental organizations, the Ombudsman, the Parliament of Georgia, executive authorities, diplomatic corps and international organizations  to discuss the latest media challenges.
