Campaign Group Pushes for More Electoral Changes, civil.ge, 7 may, 2012

An umbrella group campaigning on election-related issues has tabled package of legislative amendments, which, the group says, will help improve electoral environment ahead of the October parliamentary elections.

The group, This Affects You Too, uniting election watchdog and legal advocacy organizations, as well as several media outlets, was first formed in February to press for amending a controversial law on political parties and their funding. Many of the group’s proposals have eventually been reflected in the amendments to this law, which is currently undergoing approval process in the Parliament. See more

Don’t hesitate, says democracy campaign in Georgia, dfwatch.net, 22 may

TBILISI, DFWatch – A pro-democracy campaign in Georgia calls on the Saakashvili regime to not stall a negotiated deal intended to secure a more fair election in October.

The campaign sent a letter appealing to the president and speaker of parliament to start reviewing the proposed amendments as soon as possible, because they believe these amendments will significantly improve the election environment in the country.

The campaign This Affects You too started in February 2012 to modify a set of legislative changes the government made in the end of 2011, as preparation for the upcoming parliament elections expected to be held in early October 2012. See more

TBILISI, DFWatch – A pro-democracy campaign in Georgia Thursday presented their latest package of modifications to various aspects of the election system, as there are four months left until the parliamentary elections.

Among issues they presented to an audience of political parties, local and international organization representatives, was improving the procedure to count votes on election day, transparency in the election administration, regulate the usage of administrative reaction, providing equal access to the media for political parties during the election year, equal access to outdoors advertisement, as well as ‘must carry’ and ‘must offer’.
