On July 30, the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC), cable operators, the media, international and non-governmental organizations considered the issues relating to the mandatory transit of broadcasters – the actual implementation of the so-called ‘must carry’ principle. The meeting was organized by the Coalition for Media Advocacy.
In the opinion of NGOs, even though the ‘must carry’ principle will apply only to a small amount of voters, it is still important for the formation of a pluralistic media environment for the elections.
Participants considered the mechanisms for the implementation of media monitoring by the GNCC.
It was decided that the GNCC will prepare a decree on ‘Approving the Rule of Media Participation in the Election Process and its Use’ in Collaboration with NGOs.
