“Different People – towards a Common Goal” – Georgian publishing houses and writers once again presented an independent stand and concept at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2024.
For the second year, Georgia is participating in the world’s largest book fair with the support of four leading publishing houses – “Artanuji”, “Intelekti”, “Palitra L”, “Sulakauri” and the Civil Society Foundation. The reason for organizing Georgia’s independent stand is still the policy of the Ministry of Culture, which is boycotted by a large number of representatives of the literary sphere.
The publishers and authors who presented the stand again clearly expressed the general aspiration of Georgian society for European integration, as they believe that Georgian literature is an integral part of European culture. This aspiration is even reflected in the main slogan of the stand of our country.
The Frankfurt Book Fair serves as a significant platform for promoting Georgian literature, collaborating with foreign publishers, or selling copyrights. Along with Georgian publishers, Georgian writers Mr. Iva Pezuashvili, Mr. Lasha Bugadze, and translator Ms. Natia Mikeladze-Bakhsoliani met with the international community at various venues of the Frankfurt Book Fair. Any Georgian publishing house that wanted to participate could use the working space of the Georgian stand as well.
Among the supporters of the Independent Georgian stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair were also PEN Georgia, the Human Rights House, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia, and the Goethe Institute.
