The non-governmental organization Movement for Accessible Environment for Everyone works on increasing participation of people with disabilities in local governance. Ambrolauri, mountainous region in Georgia has been the latest target for the organization. Till now, there was no organization for people with disabilities, or any other non-governmental organization working on related issues in Racha. Meeting was attended by people with disabilities and their family members living in Ambrolauri. They underwent two days of training on the rights of persons with disabilities, stigma, activism and successful practices of advocacy in Georgia and abroad.
As a result of these trainings and meetings, Non-Governmental Organization for protecting the rights and interests of persons with disabilities has been established, which unites the persons with disabilities, their family members and other interested people.
Plans for the future are to expand the network of organizations of people with disabilities and to enhance cooperation with local authorities.
