On June 7, 2021, Phil Reeker, Acting Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, met with advocates for media freedom in Georgia. He told the group that the Biden-Harris administration is committed to put human rights at the heart of U.S. foreign policy. Freedom of the press and freedom of expression are part of this.
In order to promote more freedom for the media in Georgia and higher level of professionalism in journalism, the Acting Assistant Secretary of State, among others, listened to the views and ideas of the representatives of the Media Advocacy Coalition.
Among the remaining media issues are the safety of journalists and media managers, the prompt and effective investigation into crimes of unlawful interference with journalism, the complete abolition of media boycotts by the authorities, and the non-interference in regulation of media content of the Communications Commission.
