On November 25 Open Society Georgia Foundation in cooperation with UPR Info and Office of Public Defender of Georgia organized the first national pre-session for the 3rd cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Georgia.
The online session has been organized as a part of OSGF’s EU Integration Program project, that supports evidence-based advocacy and provides a platform for policy solutions that will enhance government accountability and advance the rights of vulnerable groups.
Being an implementing partner of the UPR Info, the OSGF supports and coordinates different activities related to UPR, including pre-session organization and the development of diverse advocacy materials.
Speakers from the CSOs have been selected based on a competitive process through a call for applications and it’s important to note that many of them speak on behalf of larger groups and coalitions covering the most critical human rights issues.
“We do hope the first-hand information will be beneficial and later on lead to recommendations that reflect local realities and needs of vulnerable groups in Georgia to maximum extant”- Ani Akhalkatsi, EU Integration Program Coordinator, says.
Ten five minute videos were shown on the pre-session where human rights defenders speak about human rights-related challenges of different groups and solutions for situation improvement and reformation.
