The Initiative for the Rehabilitation of Vulnerable Groups continues to work on the issues related to a child’s personal data protection in penitentiary system.

On July 29, a discussion meeting on the necessity of protecting personal data and eliminating existing gaps was held in the office of the Open Society Georgia Foundation. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Public Defender’s Office, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector and other state agencies and NGOs.

The Initiative for the Rehabilitation of Vulnerable Groups, with the support of Open Society Georgia Foundation conducted 6 months of research on the protection of a child’s personal data in penitentiary system. The next stage of legal analysis involves elimination of the revealed gaps.

The Initiative for the Rehabilitation of Vulnerable Groups, together with partner organizations plans to eliminate these shortcomings through advocacy. The organization monitors the process of developing normative acts in penitantiary system.

“Today, we will talk about the process of adopting subordinate acts and related cooperation between the organization and the Ministry. In addition, we will discuss the draft regulation developed for the Youth Rehabilitation Center, newly approved regulation of the analytical department and other important documents. We will review the results of advocacy, as well as the challenges faced in terms of improving the legal acts”- said Tato Kelbakiani, the Head of the Organization.

The presentation of the first research Report was held in February. It described the situation in terms of personal data protection in juvenile institutions.
