On 20 December, Media Development Foundation (MDF) of the Frontline Club unveiled media monitoring results on the use of language of hate and discrimination.
The monitoring on the use of language of hate and discrimination in the Georgian media took place between April 15 to August 15. The coverage on the topics like ethnic, religious and sexual minorities were observed in Georgian televisions – Rustavi 2, Imedi, Georgian Public Broadcaster, Kavkasia, Maestro, 9th Channel (before it was closed down), as well as in the newspapers: Asaval-Dasavali, Rezonansi, 24 Hours, Kviris Palitra, Qronika, Alia. Some news agencies were also monitored as part of the project.
The report presents both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the media. The only aim of the survey was to define whether the source of the language of hate and other discrimination was the media or a respondent, therefore the report separates from each other such expressions made by the media on the one hand and a respondent on the other.
Throughout the monitoring process, the Media Development Foundation regularly updated parties involved in the process and representatives of the civil sector on the weekly monitoring results. The report is accompanied by recommendations, made by media researchers for the media, professional and non-governmental organizations.
The project “Enforcement of the National Integrity in Georgia” has been implemented by the UN Association of Georgia and the OSGF. The financial support for the project is provided by the US Agency for International Agency;
