Sex Crimes – Unpunished and Poorly Regulated Crimes in Georgia

This policy brief focuses on the problem of regulations and implementation of the articles in regarding sex crimes. The rape legislation in Georgia is discriminatory, inadequate, and based on inherent gender stereotyping, which not only restricts the prosecution of rape but negatively influences the perception of what constitutes rape by law
enforcement officials, victims, and perpetrators. The policy brief overviews the problem, assesses existing Georgian legislation, compares it to international standards, outlines problems in practice, and, based on best practices, offers recommendations to improve the legislative framework, investigation, and prosecution.
