‘The Past and Present of the Georgian Print Media’ Exhibition Moves to Zugdidi from Batumi

The Past and Present of the Georgian Print Media’, an exhibition, opened at Zugdidi Municipal Central Library on 31 October.  The exhibition was organized as part of the project of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia.  The financial support for the project has been provided by the Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF).  The exhibition has displayed over 100 pieces of Georgian periodicals, including photo materials and original copies of unique publications.  For the first time, exhibition organizers presented to the Georgian public retrospective, chronologically arranged Georgian periodicals clearly showing the history of the development of the Georgian print media from 1819 to date.  The exhibition will last until November 14.  Representatives of non-governmental organizations, the media, the library and other persons interested in journalism have visited the exhibition.

Around 120 people attended presentations made during two days by 7 employees of the library about the Georgian press, the history of advertising in the Georgian print media, the digital library, the catalogue of Georgian newspapers and magazines and online dictionaries.  The media coverage of the event has been provided by the local media, including Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti information centre www.livepress.ge and Atinati Radio.

Initially, ‘The Past and Present of the Georgian Print Media’ exhibition opened at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia in Tbilisi on 2 May 2011 to mark the World Press Freedom Day.  Then it was held in Batumi and Zugdidi.  The exhibition is planned to be held in Telavi either.
