The Australian U20 Rugby Union Team visited the children’s hospice “Firefly World” on June 1. Rugby players arrived in Georgia to participate in the World Rugby U20 Championship and they decided to visit the children’s hospice on International Children’s Day.
The Australian rugby players painted murals on one of the walls of the hospice and took memorable photos with the children. In addition, as a sign of solidarity, they uploaded the hospice logo as their profile pictures on Facebook.
The first children’s hospice “Firefly World” was launched in Georgia in January 2017. The children’s hospice is a family-type facility, which provides free palliative care for children with chronic and incurable illnesses, as well as for their families. 24-hour service is simultaneously provided to 10 children and their parents. The hospice involves a daytime center, where children and their parents can stay from morning to evening; it also offers home care service, which presently provides services to 31 patients.
Among the tournaments organized by World Rugby, U20 Championship takes second place by importance (after World Cup). The tenth annual international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams is being held in Georgia. This is the first time our country hosts the tournament of such scale and importance.
The 2017 games will take place in Tbilisi and Kutaisi from May 31 to June 18. The teams from England, Ireland, Australia, Wales, South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, France, Scotland, Georgia, Italy and Samoa will play in Georgia.
